Closed Head/Mild Brain Injuries
THE FRUSTRATION CAUSED BY MILD BRAIN INJURIES a mild traumatic brain injury, or MTBI, can lead to major disruptions in emotional, physical and intellectual functioning. Yet all too often, the symptoms of MTBIs are overlooked or ignored. Headaches, memory problems and muddled thinking are common after a concussion or other closed head injury. These symptoms usually clear up within a few weeks or months. Sometimes, however, they never go away. Neuropsychological evaluation may be employed to determine the extent and severity of TBI.
Three step approach:
- Engage respected medical experts, neuropsychologists and, where appropriate, bio-mechanical experts who examine the client, review the medical history and file and explain to the jury how the accident in question was responsible for the injury. Whenever possible we use appropriately skilled treating doctors rather than paid experts as they generally are considered more credible by juries.
- Ask the treating doctor to explain your client’s condition and how it affects his or her daily life, as well as to outline the future medical care that the patient will require and the limitations and disabilities that he or she will have to live with during the rest of their lives. Develop a comprehensive life care plan.
- Friends, acquaintances, clergy and co-workers can describe how the person behaved before and after the injury and are often the most important witnesses to your case.
